DID numbers

A Dutch contact number, connected to your team

A Netherlands DID gives customers one +31 number to call while your team answers at a separate destination. An Amsterdam contact line can ring a SIP phone, a support queue or an existing PBX; the public number stays the same when you change the answering route.

For a sales team, choose the region associated with its customers. For a support team serving the whole country, compare a national number with the local and toll-free alternatives. The number category and the destination that answers the call are separate choices.

Plan business hours and what happens when the first destination is busy or unanswered. Our call forwarding guide explains primary and fallback routes.

Which Dutch number fits your customers?

The live price card separates the number categories. Start with how customers should reach you, then check the exact prefix, features and conditions of the available offer in your account.

Number categoryBusiness useCheck before ordering
Local / geographicA contact line associated with a Dutch city or area.Area code, address eligibility and the documents for that region.
NationalA country-wide contact identity without choosing one city. The actual prefix offered, permitted use and inbound reachability.
MobileA number in the Dutch mobile numbering category.Required voice and messaging features for the selected offer.
Toll-freeAn 0800 contact line for customers calling within the Netherlands.Incoming usage charges and reachability from the networks your customers use.

Dutch numbering distinguishes geographic area codes, non-geographic categories such as 085 and corporate 088 numbers, mobile 06 numbers and 0800 services. These categories describe the numbering plan, not a promise that every prefix is currently available from KataTelecom. See the Dutch government's business number guide for the general categories.

Region and format

Choose the area and publish the right +31 format.

Amsterdam uses 020 and Groningen uses 050 in domestic format. With country code +31, the initial domestic zero is omitted: an Amsterdam geographic number starts +31 20, followed by the subscriber number. These are format examples, not numbers reserved for your order.

A geographic area code identifies a region. Answering its calls through SIP from another location does not remove the requirements for holding that number. Confirm eligibility for the chosen area and supplier before ordering; if your business serves the whole country, compare the available national-number offers as well.

The Dutch regulator ACM explains geographic area codes. For international dialling, Odido's dialling guidance shows how +31 replaces the initial zero. Use the live locations above and confirm the exact number in your account.

FAQ

Questions about Dutch virtual numbers.

Choose a Dutch number category, understand the +31 format and plan where your team answers.

How much does a Netherlands virtual phone number cost?

Compare the local, national, mobile and toll-free rows in the live price card. Monthly rental, any setup fee and call usage are separate parts of the total. Forwarding to an ordinary phone number can add a charged call leg; check outgoing rates for that destination. Your personal account shows the exact price and conditions of the selected offer.

How fast is activation?

Standard activations are usually fast after availability and compliance checks. Regulated number types may take longer if documents are required.

Can calls be forwarded internationally?

Yes. A call to your Dutch number can be routed to SIP, an existing PBX, a mobile or a call center destination. Confirm the destination and its usage charges, then test the main and fallback routes before publishing the number to customers.

Are there KYC requirements?

Requirements depend on number type, country and use case. We check required documents before activation.

What is the difference between a local and a national Dutch number?

A local number belongs to a geographic area, while a national number is not tied to one city. The Netherlands has different non-geographic categories, including 085 and corporate 088 ranges. Check the actual prefix and conditions in the available offer rather than assuming that every national number has the same rules.

How should I write a Dutch number with +31?

Use +31 followed by the Dutch number without its initial domestic zero. For an Amsterdam geographic number, domestic prefix 020 becomes +31 20. Add the subscriber number; do not write +31 020.

Can my team answer outside the Netherlands?

Your Dutch contact number can route calls to your team's SIP endpoint, PBX or a chosen phone destination. Remote answering and eligibility for the number are separate matters: confirm the regional and supplier requirements in your account before ordering.

Can customers abroad call a Dutch toll-free number?

Do not assume that an 0800 number is reachable internationally. Check the caller networks and countries you need to serve. If customers also call from outside the Netherlands, plan a reachable alternative contact number and test it before launch.
